Yuvan's five compositions in Machakkaran are in the contemporary style. All the numbers except one have impressive lyrics by Pa Vijay. The odd one out which is equally captivating is by a new entrant, Deventhran.
Niru's Rameswaram album is an enjoyable montage of musical moods and moments without any disturbing contemporary trimmings.
Vel has a drab musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja, for whom consistency has never been a strong point. His outputs have always been a medley of the good and the mediocre. And now Vel joins the below average bandwagon.
Without resorting too much to any modern cosmetic frills, Srikant Deva's Sila Nerangalil offers a really enjoyable musical fare. Vairamuthu's meaningful and poetic lyrics also have contributed in a big way to the allure of the tracks.
Even with an impressive line-up of singers like Shankar Mahadevan, Anuradha Sriram, Karthik, and Harish Raghavendra also, Vilayattu's album fails to impress.
Music is by G V Prakash (A R Rahman's nephew) who has already made an indelible mark with his compositions in films like Veyyil, Oram Po and the recent Kireedom.
Yuan has a pleasant surprise up his sleeve for the Tamil film music fans; his father Ilayaraja has rendered one of Yuvan's compositions in this album and incidentally it is the pick of this five-track album.
D Imman has failed to make the music of Vambuchanda interesting. The five-track album cannot be called even distant cousins of Kathakali songs. The film is directed by Raj Kapoor and has Satyaraj, Udaykiran and Divya in the lead.
Sringaram, the debut directorial venture of Sarada Ramanathan, is a musical movie on the life of a devadasi (temple dancer) called Mathura. It is also focused on the popular South Indian classical dance form Bharatnatyam.
Yugendran is able to bring out feelings and emotions in his compositions. What is lacking though, is variety, originality and individuality of style.
Truly a compelling contemporary musical feast by Rajhesh Vaidhya.
Himesh Reshammiya's maiden attempt at Tamil music fails to impress.
The film's soundtrack has vibrantly crafted tracks employing an impressive array of youthful vocals and modern genres of music.
All in all Harris Jayaraj offers a good fare despite adopting an orthodox style.
Not a bad effort by Yuvan Shankar Raja, though nothing extra-ordinary either.
